Who We Are...

Incorporated in 1979, the Putnam/Northern Westchester Women’s Resource Center began a tradition of providing information resources, skills workshops and professional counseling to assist women in  making informed choices and in working towards their potential.  Programs and services are continually developed to meet community needs and to reflect the needs of women, children and their families in a changing social environment.

Currently, the center serves over 2,000 women, children and men annually through shelter, 24-hour Hotline, and non-residential counseling and advocacy.  Our professional staff is enhanced by more than forty volunteers.

Predominately serving Putnam and Westchester counties we have also provided services to individuals as far away as New York City, Orange, Dutchess and Rockland Counties.

Through residential and non-residential Domestic Violence programs, women and children are assisted in healing from the traumas of domestic abuse. Survivors of sexual assault are assisted through confidential forensic rape exams, advocacy, counseling  and support.  Women going through life changing situations are assisted with information, referrals and counseling.

Our center realizes the key to eradicating domestic and sexual violence is through knowledge and education. We believe it is not enough to help women and children after they have been abused; we must work toward preventing abuse in the first place.

Our staff members continue to train other professional on domestic violence and sexual assault issues, and have been recognized as specialists in these areas.

WRC continues to expand its resources to enable the agency to meet client needs.  Our knowledgeable and diverse staff is recognized for their accessibility, responsiveness and professionalism.  Our facilities provide a welcoming and comfortable environment for our clients, staff, students and volunteers.  Our shelter is able to provide adequate space for all the battered women and their children in our community who are seeking safety.  Our Board of Directors is actively involved in providing leadership to our organization, and is appropriately representative of our community.

The Putnam/Northern Westchester Women’s Resource Center is recognized and well regarded in the community for its unique work in providing  services, resources and leadership in the areas of sexual abuse, domestic violence and gender equality.   We fulfill our mission through both individual efforts and strategic partnerships with other organizations.  We encourage and support  interactive learning and shared decision making among and between all levels of the organization.  We are constantly challenging  ourselves to meet the ever-changing needs of the community.
